The round-table discussion e-(OUT)TOPIAS aims at elaborating on the relation of cyberspace with outdoor public space by showing new ways of presenting this relation in Contemporary Art. Technology has become an integral part of our everyday life and the predominance of the Internet, the social media and the smartphones has brought about an unprecedented fusion of physical space with cyberspace. This evolution has largely affected Contemporary Art and it is estimated to continue fostering artmaking and to provoke a constructive dialogue between the artistic and the technoscientific community.
In the frame of e-(OUT)TOPIAS round-table discussion the following issues will be raised:
• the outdoor / public space online (CCTV webcams, Geospatial Technologies: Google Earth, Google Street View, GPS)
• the Internet in outdoor / public space (wi-fi networks, ipads and smartphones, Pokemon GO)
• does the Internet constitute a virtual public space?
• the hybridity of (online) public space
• the performativity of (online) public space
• the online public space as source of inspiration and context for artmaking
• artists’ role and position with regards to online public space.
