Evolution of the Public Space in the Last Century

Evolution of the Public Space in the Last Century is the 4th seminar in Design Cultures: Architecture, Archives and Visual Identity discussion stream, part of the Colloquium: Conversations in Theory and Practice held between Kingston University of London and Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).

This seminar will address the evolution of the public space from the birth of the modern metropolis, at the dawn of 20th century, until todays cyber-cities. The dynamics, hostility and versatility of the public space in the last century will be illustrated within  arts, literature and computing. Anastasia Zoi Souliotou will present her art projects, which are based on her own cyber flânerie. Dimitrios Makris will discuss the role of technology in viewing public spaces through cameras and the interaction between people and space. Theodore Tsekeris will discuss about the role and potential of Intelligent Transport Systems in shaping the contemporary urban space.
