Near one of the oldest cities in Europe, Thermi of Lesvos Northern Aegean Island, was held a happening in September 2023. A painting was created with local natural materials of mud and thermal waters to represent a landmark and imposing building of Loutropolis Thermis, the legendary Sarlitza Palace. With soil and water, which are common art and building materials that have been used throughout many prehistoric and historical periods, the emblematic Sarlitza building is painted on canvas, rendering the splendour, but also the fragility of the building that calls for restoration. The mud painting was made by the artist and Assistant Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Anastasia Zoi Souliotou, in the wake of the floods and the destructive mud in Thessaly, where she was born and raised. The photography and camerawork of the happening was undertaken by Nelli Kampani, a student of the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean and a permanent resident of Loutropolis Thermis, where she was born and raised.
